Get To Know Mikey

  • How did you first get into this work?

Mikey was a social worker for about 15 years before embarking upon her carrier as a Death Doula. During this time she observed a huge gap in care for folks dealing with end of life and the full time care required for these individuals. With the silent generation and baby boomers aging and getting sick and folks not being able to quit their full time jobs to provide the 24/7 care that’s required; she jumped into action and created Healing Hearts House LLC where they provide respite care, comfort care, education, legacy projects, end of life planning, grief support and so much more.

  • What keeps you doing it?

Mikey has been doing this incredible work for several years and truly loves what she does. Being able to show up, hold space and help guild individuals and their families through this trying time is such a gift. She states that she feels like she was born to do this important work.

  • Who has mentored, inspired, or encouraged you along the way?

Watching other Death Doulas like Death Doula Kacie and our Death Doulas in our collective find their niche and create their own brand and business truly inspires me. I want all Death Doulas to be successful and help the communities they serve.

  • One piece of advice for women entering this profession.

A piece of advice Mikey would give to other women trying to enter this field is just do it! Don’t wait for everything to fall into place just focus on one thing at a time and just start. Trust the process. And self care is truly non negotiable for this line of work set boundaries and take it one day at a time.

  • Favorite moment or memory from your work so far.

A favorite moment is hard to choose every single death that Mikey is a part of is special and unique in its own ways. One that does stand out was when Mikey was asked to preform Reiki during a young man’s passing and it was not only transformative for him, the family but also for her. It was truly a the most beautiful peaceful labor out of life one could have.

  • What’s a surprising skill or fun fact about you?
