Her upcoming book, Wake Up Calls: A Journey of Learning to Lead and Succeed in the Funeral and Deathcare Profession, shares the story of how she built a career with head, heart, and grit. Lisa also leads the Women’s Leadership Academy and Women’s Wellness Summit, both launching in November 2025 to support and empower women across the profession.

Get To Know Lisa

  • How did you first get into this work?

Funeral service was always part of my world. My grandparents were funeral directors, and my father ran our family’s funeral home. Even though I wasn’t always encouraged to follow in their footsteps, the profession was woven into my life from an early age. After college, my dad suggested I try a management program, and to my surprise, I fell in love with the work. It combined everything I cared about, helping people, meaningful connection, and making a difference during life’s hardest moments. From that point on, I knew I’d found my purpose.

  • What keeps you doing it?

I truly love this profession. It has given me a lifetime of purpose, connection, and service. There is something incredibly meaningful about walking alongside families during their most difficult times and helping them find comfort and healing. That sense of purpose has never left me. What keeps me doing it now, just as passionately, is the opportunity to support and uplift women in this profession. I see so much talent and heart in the women entering funeral service, and I want to help ensure they are seen, supported, and given every opportunity to lead. Helping create a more inclusive and empowered future is the most fulfilling work I can imagine.

  • Favorite moment or memory from your work so far?

There are many, but one that stands out is watching a young woman I mentored step confidently into a leadership role at her firm. Seeing her growth and knowing I played a small part in her journey reminded me why I do this work. Moments like that, where support becomes empowerment, are incredibly fulfilling.

  • One piece of advice for women entering this profession?

Own your voice and your value. This profession needs your compassion, your strength, and your perspective. Stay grounded in your purpose, continue learning, and surround yourself with mentors and peers who believe in you and push you to grow. You belong here, and you have so much to contribute.

  • Who has mentored, inspired, or encouraged you along the way?

My parents were my earliest inspiration. My father’s passion for service and my mother’s quiet strength gave me the foundation I needed. Over the years, I have been fortunate to learn from many mentors, especially women leaders who led with courage, clarity, and heart. Today, I am inspired by the incredible women I coach and walk alongside, as well as the supportive community we have built through Funeral Women Lead.

  • What’s a surprising skill or fun fact about you?

I originally planned to be a tour guide and studied Spanish and Portuguese in college. Today I still love bringing people together, whether it’s over a home-cooked meal, meaningful conversation, or a shared mission. Creating connection has always been a natural part of who I am.
