- Safety First: Immediately secure all firearms, weapons, and accessories in a locked and safe location.
- Identify Secure Storage: Ensure they are stored in a gun safe, locked cabinet, or another secure place to prevent unauthorized access.
- Create a Detailed List: Record all firearms, weapons, and related accessories, including make, model, caliber, serial number, and any distinctive features.
- Locate Documentation: Gather any related documentation, such as purchase receipts, registration papers, licenses, and permits.
- Photograph Items: Take clear photographs of each item for documentation purposes.
- Review Local Laws: Research and understand the legal requirements for handling, transferring, or disposing of firearms and weapons in your jurisdiction.
- Contact Authorities: If necessary, notify local law enforcement or consult with an attorney to ensure compliance with all legal obligations.
